Sid Sijbrandij on Working with Villi

I always encourage founders to get to know investors and do extensive reference checks before they select their lead VCs. Reference calls are an important step in any hiring decision and choosing your investors is no different. Speaking with founders who have succeeded in building big companies, founders who have gone through hardship or failure, and anything in between will provide valuable insight into their experience working with an investor.

I had the great fortune and opportunity to invest in GitLab and lead their Series B round. As a Board Member, I also had a close relationship with the founders and the management team. Because founders often ask Sid to provide a reference, he had the innovative idea to create a public record about his experience that can be shared with founders.

I am hoping this is first of a series of public and transparent videos I will ask founders to record about their experience. This conversation is led by Job van der Voort who is the co-founder and CEO of Remote, which is another incredible company I am fortunate to be associated with. Enjoy!
