Partnering with Myriad

Compliance represents a significant operational burden for regulated institutions. The regulatory landscape is intricate, often exceeding one thousand pages in documentation, with approximately 200 updates occurring daily. Financial institutions and other regulated entities maintain substantial compliance and legal departments to manage this complexity through manual processes. This approach proves expensive, time-consuming, and error-prone, exposing organizations to substantial regulatory penalties.

The compliance sector presents an ideal use case for large language model disruption given its reliance on manual processes and extensive paperwork. However, the domain demands specialized solutions rather than general-purpose AI tools. "Compliance is too contextual, workflow dependent, and high-stakes" for generic systems; instead, it requires "purpose-built systems that deliver precision and accuracy from day one."

Category Ventures is backing Myriad, a startup developing AI agents designed to monitor, interpret, and automate compliance processes in regulated industries, beginning with financial services. The platform ingests regulatory updates and translates them into organization-specific directives that AI agents can execute dependably, establishing "a new model of compliance: proactive, automated, and scalable."

Myriad’s founding team comprises Ralf and Jan, who met during graduate studies at Georgia Tech. Ralf holds a doctorate in AI with leadership experience at Google X and BMW, plus prior entrepreneurial experience. Jan brings over a decade of infrastructure expertise from Airbnb, Google, and NVIDIA. Both founders possess the technical acumen and ambition necessary for implementing trustworthy AI in high-stakes environments.

Category selected Myriad because "our best investments ‘just click’" without requiring extensive deliberation—this partnership exemplified that instinctive alignment from initial discussions through investment commitment.
